The American society of cinematographers is an organization that supports filmmakers and produces a magazine highlighting innovation in cinematography. Their publication, The American Cinematographer, discusses featured films and conducts interviews with featured ASC members. This website and publication will help me understand and formulate a solid basis for my film knowledge and background.

The Criterion Collection is a collection of important classic and contemporary films that have been regarded of some of the greatest films of all time. This organization is devoted to presenting these films in their original format and quality so that they can be seen as the director intended. This important collection of movies will help inspire me in my own films and to watch what is seen as essential to many great directors and cinematographers.

The Kubrick Site is an online resource for everything relating to the works of director Stanley Kubrick. This website houses scripts, interviews, essays and articles from and on the director. His monumental films have been studied for years for their ingenuity and rogue creativity. This collection of resources will let me learn how people study great filmmakers, as well as study the great director himself.

Another great director, Alfred Hitchcock was also a trailblazing force in filmmaking. His suspense-driven masterpieces transformed the thriller genre and inspired decades of filmmakers. This website houses his biography and filmography with extensive writing on each of his many films. These descriptions of each film will help me write my own for my website, and learn more about Hitchcock’s own works.

IMDb, or Internet Movie Database is the premiere site for housing film reviews. Though the website’s reviews were seen as more reputable in its earlier days, many user submitted reviews are still useful and informative. These reviews can help me analyze films I am interested in, and see the proper format for film reviews.

Simply Scripts is a database of thousands of produced and unproduced scripts. The website houses thousands of scripts by both renowned and unknown writers. Reading the scripts of great writers will help me to improve my own scriptwriting and improve the overall quality of my films.

This journal article is an analysis of Quentin Tarantino’s film Django Unchained through the lens of historical realism. From the journal, Black Camera, this article discusses the triumphs and failings of the film in relation to its historical accuracy. This in depth look at Tarantino’s film is a powerful critique of a highly regarded filmmaker that will help me learn how to better critique movies.

This comprehensive book on the visualization of ideas in film encompasses many of the skills I’ve learned in Dig Vid. This book is full of useful information on pre-production, production, and post production. There are also informational examples of storyboards and visualizations of scenes from classic films. This treasure trove of information on putting thoughts on film will help me learn these skills myself.

This video is a Q&A with several famous modern directors that give brief insights into the way they make films. Artists such as Quentin Tarantino, David Fincher, and Peter Jackson all give their unique perspective on the creative process. This video helps me to understand the creative minds of the directors I love.
